For those of you who don't know, I teach Zumba here in London at LA Fitness. It is such a fun job! I love getting paid to exercise....something that I would already do for free. If you are wondering, "What is Zumba?," it is a Latin dance fitness exercise that has been around for about 10 years. It has a lot of hip movements and Latin flare to it. It is so much fun and you don't even feel like you are exercising! That is the best part. It feels like a big dance party! If you haven't tried it, you should! Also, at the International school that I will soon be working at, they want me to teach an after school Zumba class for their students! I'm excited!
My first time teaching here, I noticed that the people in the class were a lot more reserved and quiet then what I am used to in the US. There is a song that I do where you yell out, "1, 2, 3, Zumba!" For the life of me, I couldn't get them to yell it! I would say, "Ok, here it comes, get ready!" Nothing. "Alright, you have one more try, let me hear you!" Nothing. "Come on you guys, I'm going to lose my voice without your help, let's yell it, ready..." Nothing. I finally just felt like an idiot and yelled it myself! :) I asked one of the other ladies in my class that also teaches Zumba there and she said, "That is just Londoners for you." She said that they are more reserved and to themselves than usual. Very interesting. But I won't give up.....
There is one guy in my class that comes all the time. He is Asian. He stands in the front row most days and gets really into it. He actually has great rhythmn. Every week, he thanks me and tells me how much he enjoyed it. Then with a big grin he says, "See you next week!" :)
Excerising gives me such a great high. During my bridal shower, my sister had asked Nate questions about me a few days before, to see how well we knew each other. One of the questions that she asked was, "What are three things that makes Mikelle happy?" Nate said, "Exercising, frozen yogurt, and me." He pretty much nailed it. I love helping people meet their fitness goals and seeing them change. I love motivating people to feel their best, which actually ends up motivating me, cause I need it sometimes too. I love my job!
